What is SEER2, and what does it tell me about an air conditioner or heat pump?
SEER2 is an efficiency rating used for central air conditioners and heat pumps. In general, a higher SEER2 rating means the equipment can provide the same amount of cooling while using less electricity under standardized test conditions. The rating is useful for comparing equipment, but actual operating costs also depend on your home, thermostat settings, weather, ductwork, installation quality, and how the system is used.
Why can the efficiency rating on an EnergyGuide label differ from the rating my contractor discusses?
HVAC efficiency is based on a matched system, not only the outdoor unit. The indoor coil, furnace or air handler, outdoor equipment, and approved equipment combination all affect the certified rating. Your estimate should be based on the complete matched system being proposed for your home.
How do I know which HVAC system is the right size for my home?
Square footage alone is not enough. Proper system selection should consider the home's size and layout, insulation, windows, orientation, ductwork, existing equipment, comfort concerns, and heating and cooling load. Bigger is not automatically better—oversized equipment can create short cycling, uneven comfort, humidity problems, and unnecessary cost.
How long should a heating or cooling system last?

Why are some rooms hotter or colder than others?
